Who are you? Are you a mom, a wife, a daughter, a nurse, a worship leader, hairstylist, etc? Before you answer to any of those things, you are first and foremost a child of God.
Identity. It’s why we live the way we do. Somewhere along the way, we identified ourself with something and it helped shape us into who we are and who we are becoming. And why is identity so important? Because if we don’t know who we are and believe it for ourselves, then when our identity is attacked we won’t have a firm foundation to stand on.
This world we live in is constantly throwing labels as to who are supposed to be and how we are supposed to perform to live up to them. And the devil wants nothing less than for us to question our identity.
So who are you?
You are a child of God. Nothing ever can or will take that away. God gave you that identity and it will always be yours. You are His. He bought you with His nail-scarred hands and because you belong to Him, you have nothing to fear.
When we know without a doubt that we are God’s beloved, then we can stand firm when troubles try and shake us. As a daughter or son of Father God, we have been given the same access to Heaven and power. That means we aren’t defenseless or helpless. We are well equipped and ready for battle at all times. We don’t have to wander around aimlessly or worry away our life. We are solid and steady, without waver, knowing who we are!
My old identity has been co-crucified with Messiah and no longer lives; for the nails of his cross crucified me with him. And now the essence of this new life is no longer mine, for the Anointed One lives his life through me—we live in union as one! My new life is empowered by the faith of the Son of God who loves me so much that he gave himself for me, and dispenses his life into mine!
